What is Vastu Shastra?
Vastu Shastra is the traditional Indian science of space and architecture. It describes how directions, light, air and the five elements influence the energy of a home. While full Vastu can be detailed, many of its principles are simple common sense: light, order and flow.
10 easy Vastu changes
- Keep the entrance clean and bright: the main door is where energy enters. Keep it clutter-free, well lit, and add a nameplate or toran.
- Let in morning light: open east-facing windows and curtains every morning.
- Clear the north-east corner: traditionally the most sacred zone; keep it clean, light and uncluttered, ideally for prayer or meditation.
- Remove broken items: stopped clocks, cracked mirrors and broken appliances are said to hold stagnant energy.
- Place mirrors thoughtfully: avoid mirrors directly facing the bed or the main door.
- Bring in living plants: tulsi near the entrance or balcony, money plant indoors. Remove dried or dying plants.
- Fix leaking taps: leaks are traditionally linked with draining wealth and energy.
- Sleep with your head towards the south or east: a common Vastu recommendation for restful sleep.
- Keep the centre of the home open: the centre (Brahmasthan) should be light and free of heavy furniture.
- Light a diya at dusk: a ghee or sesame-oil diya near the entrance or prayer space every evening.
Start small
Choose two or three changes this week rather than trying everything at once. Notice how the space feels, and how you feel in it.
When the space is fine but you still feel heavy
Sometimes the home is in order, but your own energy is depleted. An Aura Blockage Scan shows which areas of your aura and chakras look blocked or low, so you know what to work on.
